The Hungry Lizard

I was reading through my notebook of poems today. The one that stood out to me the most was The Hungry Lizard, which I wrote in 2011. It made me realize I should go outside and notice the little things in nature more often. Here’s the poem:

My lizard, he was hungry,

paced back and forth in his cage.

He jumped and tried to climb

Most crickets shied in his rage.

He darted, but missed,

then rested, and let his head be kissed

by the warm sun.

Then he up and ran again,

and the crickets tried to abscond

but the largest cricket of them all

scoffed at the lizard, and stood tall,

then jumped onto the whiptail’s back,

and rode away with a tip of his hat.
